Welcome to Panoply! I've been looking forward to setting another tablescape, and this time it's a great Americana-themed one: Stars, Stripes, Checks and Plaids Forever!
I am hosting a summertime tablescape blog hop today, and further in this post you will find links with ideas from 16 additional stylists, ranging in themes from Americana to garden to water and the skies in a variety of summertime tables. This tablescape started with an estate sale last year, whereby I bought two of the three Staffordshire dinner plates used. In the photo below, they are the top L and bottom R plates. The top R plate was purchased this year at an estate sale, and the bottom L plate (Wedgwood) was bought on eBay to complete a so-called set of four. As stamped on the backside, the Staffordshire dinner plates are marked as follows (clockwise from top R): 1) Molly Pitcher at Battle of Monmouth June 28th 1778; 2) Charleston, West Virginia, Imported Exclusively for Coffey's, Inc.; 3) Niagara Falls. The 4th plate, Wedgwood, reads: The South Platform Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain, New York, Built by the French 1755-1758.
I am not a huge fan of red, but using the blue & white more than the red, it struck a balance I liked. With the subtle hints of red in the seersucker plaid tablecloth, grocery flowers, flags (of course!), and smaller decor items, this worked for me. The Royal Check rattan tray in the center of the table even had a red tone to the finish on the wicker. The Blenko small water bottles are used as my vases, and the goblets in blue complement them.

The plate stack of Royal Check charger, Staffordshire dinner, and Queen's ware salads lend lots of pattern play. The wave in the tablecloth is not your eyes, it was an unpressed fold. π΅π« Downy's wrinkle release took care of that (thanks, Mary!).
I took a trick out of my my blog friend Mary's playbook and turned an ordinary metal napkin ring into one that was elevated and more suitable for this tablescape. Star magnets for the win!
These star magnets are a great little addition to the napkin ring. In fact, these magnets are so strong, the napkin rings practically jumped to the magnets! I arranged a couple in horizontal lines, and a couple in triangles. The estate sale flatware was a great mid-century find. Seersucker napkins scream summer to me, and the navy placemats ground the plate stack.
Here's a funny thing that happened, which ended up being a decor item on the table. See the red, white and blue M&M peanuts on the left end of the overhead shot of the table pictured below?
Thank you so much for joining me at the table today. Tablescaping is one of my favorite ways of mixing patterns in fun finds, whether new or vintage, and sharing them in ways that can be enjoyed by just me or in a gathering with friends and family. I hope your summer is filled with lots of fun times, whether it's on your own or with family and friends.
Well, Mr. P. loves M&M peanuts, and buys them at Sam's in the 62 oz containers. In early May, his restock trip offered the red, white and blue holiday M&Ms. Mr. P. does not like the holiday theme colored M&M peanuts, whether it's Easter, Patriotic, Christmas....anything other than the standard. The standard colored containers were not available at all, so he begrudgingly bought the RWB ones.
A trip back to Sam's about two weeks later, and the standard colors were restocked. Mr. P. bought two containers, and asked if I would eat the RWB ones. So they became edible decor which, yes, I grab a few almost every time I pass them. I hope you find some inspiration in my table today, even if it's in buying themed colored M&Ms. I like to keep track of my table elements used. Listing them with my tablescapes helps my memory. If you're inspired by anything used today, maybe the list will help you too. I have no sponsorships of any items.

Good morning Rita, My heart beats red, white and blue so your Americana-themed table with Uncle Sam speaks to me! Such fun pattern play on your table with plaids, stripes and checks! I love your assorted red transferware plates, paired with Queen’s Calico blue and MKC Royal Check. I had to chuckle at Mr. P’s preference for non-holiday M&Ms, he’s a true connoisseur. π Downy’s Wrinkle Release to the rescue (I used some yesterday) and the magnets make for such an easy upgrade to napkin rings. Thank you so much for all your organizing effort for these hops. I so appreciate you! Happy Tuesday π½️❤️π€π
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love your revolving graphic showing your patterned plates too.
Good morning, Rita. I love a patriotic table and yours truly celebrates the red, white, and blue! Mixing patterns is close to my heart and you did it so well with plaids, checks, and stripes. Your transferware plates are perfect with the Queens’s salad plates and of course, the MKC Royal Check chargers. Mr. P loves his sweets, how funny that he didn’t like the red, white, and blue ones…more for you. Seersucker just says it is summer, and I have fond memories of seeing my Daddy wearing a seersucker sport coat.
ReplyDeleteThank you for organizing our hops. You do a fabulous job!
OK -- More on the table later, but let me just say I love that Mr. P is an M&M purist! That cracked me up but I get it. (I DO tend to buy the holiday colors but am equally purist on other things that everyone thinks is a little nuts! No pun intended!) Sorting the M&Ms and sharing the seasonals with you was truly an act of brilliance and love! (My question -- since red and blue are always in the multi-color mix, does he never eat those or just doesn't like them paired together. Inquiring minds want to know. Tell him he rocks!)
ReplyDeleteYour table makes me smile. I tend to not be big on patriotic tables as such -- too much tacky and bold color and flags stuck in everything. This is anything but. It's classic with the beautiful plates, the subtle stars (brilliant) and the wonderful Uncle Sam which reminds me of the Whimsical Whittler's designs (some were marketed to a mass production company like Midwest or Hatton House and I'm wondering if this is one or just a typical period look.) And that tablecloth is the best, very versatile. Love it all.
I love the red, white and blue theme and your plate stack is so eye catching. The magnets are a new idea to me and they are adorable! I always enjoy this hop - ready, set, here I go!
ReplyDeleteRita, what a fabulously festive patriotic table! Those red transferware dishes are beautiful and your styling is impeccable. Thanks for hosting us and happy summer!
ReplyDeleteRita, I am definitely a fan of red, especially paired with blue and white and love your set of Staffordshire transfer ware plates. Great finds! The linens make a striking background. I always marvel at your overhead shots. I have never been successful trying to capture overheads of my table. Perhaps it is the shandy that prevents a good one.
ReplyDeleteI'm chuckling over the M&M situation at your house. I bought red, white, and blue peanut M&M candy before Memorial Day as well a plain, just for the look. Ha! Ha! Who am I kidding. I've already had to replenish! Just plain this time around.
I lucked into a set of the Queen's dinner plates in the Calico Blue at Home Goods early spring and snatched them up to go with the set of salads in my cupboard. I like mixing them with my red transfer as well. Of course the Royal Check is a favorite.
I have one of the kite flying Uncle Sam figures among my "Uncle Sam Convention" that lives here. Love the whimsy!
Thank you for your diligent leadership and for sharing this inspiring table! Happy Summer, my friend!
Good Morning Rita. Oh love the red white and blue. Uncle Sam is awesome. Love your plates and how they all stack so nicely. Really cool. You have made the stripes, plaids and solids work so nicely together. Have a lovely week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteOh Rita - I love your table! And I love the M&Ms story! How sweet of you to take them off your husband's hands (!) and they do make perfect decor! I think your color and pattern choices are just fabulous - that tablecloth with the plate patterns thrills my tablescape soul! Thanks so much for hosting the hop, and Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Rita! Your patriotic table makes my heart sing! The red, white, and blue color combination is perfect for a summertime table. The seersucker tablecloth makes the perfect backdrop to your pretty flowers and lovely plate stack. The transferware plates were a wonderful estate sale find and look so striking with the MC Royal Check plates. Thanks for the tip about Downy wrinkle release. I’m off to buy some. I hate to iron! Wishing you a most wonderful summer! Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors
ReplyDeleteRita! Your red, white and blue table looks so festive with Uncle Sam bringing on such a patriotic flair!! I love your plate stack with the blue checks, red transferware, and the calico blue - it makes for a great combination! Your napkin fans with the flags tucked in looks like the perfect buntings for your placesettings. Your story about Mr. P and the M&M's reminds me of Mathew McConaughey in the Wedding Planner!ππ€£ -"I only eat the brown ones, Because I figure they have less artificial coloring, because chocolate's already brown." Your table makes me want to attend a good parade!! Ready for summer!! Thank you for all your work organizing these hops, it is greatly appreciated❤️πΊπΈ
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table setting with red, white and blue. The m&m's add to the beauty Mr. P. π
ReplyDeleteRita, I love your red white and blue. Had I been home? I would’ve went that route also. Using the little star magnets on your napkin rings is genius. What a great way to update them and I have to agree with Mary suggestion about the wrinkle release. It works like a charm. The Staffordshire dinner plates along with the queen‘s salad plates make for a beautiful plate stack and of course your use of MKC is perfect. I particularly love the story of the M&Ms. And I have to admit anytime I add candy to my table. It’s always a quick stop off as I leave the kitchen and go anywhere. I don’t need an excuse to grab a nibble. I’m looking forward to the next blog hop hopefully we are here in Florida for a long while. It was draining emotionally to have to attend a funeral and a wedding within a few weeks of each other, but God is good and gives strength When needed. Have a great and blessed day. You’ve created yet another day of blogging with lots of inspiration. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWow Rita, what a fab Americana table πΊπΈ I love every single detail, the combination of the tablecloth, napkins, and the plate stacks look like stars and stripes!! Love the fearless como of patterns and yes, grab some M&Ms for me!
ReplyDeleteπ Jenna
Three cheers for this table! I really love your plate stacks, and the Staffordshire dinner plates are wonderful. (I am a red lover!) Your table linens are spot-on, and I love the addition of the fairy lights. The star magnets on the napkin rings: ingenious! Your patterns are all so much fun, and of course I love how it's all anchored with the MacKenzie-Childs Royal Check. Lovely table, My Friend, and I really appreciate all that you do to organize these blog hop parties. Thank-you!
ReplyDeleteRita, I love the mixture of patterns on your table. I love that the blue was more bold too since the striped tablecloth was predominately blue. It is always so charming to see a mixture of patterns from different styles. It is so unique to see the historical and charming Staffordshire plates in the stack with modern, whimsical checkered MCK-C chargers. You are so right --the seesucker striped napkins and the striped tablecloth really gives me the feel that it is a casual summer. Love your use of the playful Uncle Sam and the small flags. The magnets on the napkin ring is such a great and creative idea. I love the red, white and blue M&Ms. I didn't know there was a flavor difference between the standard and the specialty? I would eat any! Have a super great summer and, as always, thank you for organizing the blog hops.
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon, Rita,
ReplyDeleteYour table is a perfect Americana one. I am swooning over your red and white Staffordshire dinner plates. I have started to collect red and white for my corner cupboard, and I need these. ❤️π€
The tablecloth, napkins, and plate stack are an excellent combination.
Thank you for the inspiration. And thank you for hosting these blog hops. It takes a lot of work.
Happy Tuesday!
Rita, what a beautiful table - your patriotic theme is understated yet festive and elegant at the same time! The Staffordshire dinners were a fab find and pair wonderfully with the MKC chargers and calico salads. The seersucker tablecloth and napkins just say summer - I remember having a seersucker dress as a child. Very creative to add the stars to the napkin rings and Uncle Sam is a special nod to your upcoming holiday. Love the cobalt blue water bottles and goblets - so pretty. That is a very funny story about Mr. P. and his M&Ms. I hope you have a wonderful summer and that Mother Nature smiles upon your garden!
ReplyDeleteThose plates are wonderful! I have stayed at the Molly Pitcher Inn in New Jersey, so that one certainly caught my eye. Isn’t it nice that we have eBay to fill in the blanks for us? That Mary is a clever one, I love the magnetic stars on those napkin rings! I don’t have any metal napkin rings, but I see that both they and magnetic stars are in my future. Thanks for hosting this fun blog hop.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I so enjoy these tablescape blog hops!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So glad you're enjoying them. We love them too!
DeleteI love an Americana-themed table setting and decor, and look forward to seeing these tables each year. Your plate stack is wonderful, and the magnets are a great idea! I hope you have an enjoyable summer in your beautiful garden.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great theme, Rita, and the Staffordshire, Wedgewood plates are such a wonderful way to use red in the tablescape. Your choice of tablecloth was the perfect base for this table. I'm a big fan of blue so using more of that color really worked for me. Loved the flowers on either side of the table. The look is cohesive and celebratory and you really did a super job incorporating your many vintage finds. Good eye! thanks so much for hosting this great hop. Have a wonderful summer.
ReplyDeleteLynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Hello, it is lovely. I love the Staffordshire plates, they really make the statement.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday America!

Rita, you always inspire me with your special touches for your tablescapes. I love the mix of color and patterns, just perfect for the Fourth of July. Thanks for all the creative inspiration you share and for hosting these scapes. I enjoy seeing them so much. Happy Summer sweet girl............
ReplyDeleteRita, I love the cheerful mix of red, white and blue patterns which handily convey an Americana theme without relying solely on symbols. Though one of my favorite pieces was Uncle Sam π. Your vintage treasures are wonderful and work so well together. Of course I gravitated to the lovely examples of cobalt blue glass! Thanks again for your patience in organizing these fun blog hops! Enjoy your summer (and your M&Ms).
ReplyDeleteOh Rita, your mix of stars, stripes, and checks is so lovely! You always layer pattern and texture so beautifully—and that Uncle Sam is such a charming and perfect addition. I loved the patriotic M&Ms too - such a whimsical addition to this setting. Thank you again for organizing this wonderful hop—I'm so honored to be part of it with you! πΊπΈ❤️
ReplyDeleteOh Rita, your patriotic table is perfect for the 4th! I am a huge fan of red and those transferware plates make me swoon. I love the calico salad plates and the checkered. How funny that Mr P only likes the standard peanut M&M’s. Lucky you to be able to eat the RWB ones. Happy First Day of Summer ❤️ π€ π
