Welcome, readers! Today I'm inviting you to join me in celebrating table design for the Christmas season. In decorating my home, tablescaping has become an integral part of my decor, and my Christmas tablescape was the first thing I did in preparing my home for the holidays. Simply stated, it's "A Christmas Home Tablescape".
Additionally, as a special treat for you today, I am hosting a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop of talented friends who are also sharing their tabletop skills for the holiday season. Be sure to check out the entire list with direct links to their Christmas tablescapes later in this post.
The inspiration for my tablescape began with vintage finds, which should come as no surprise to frequent readers of my blog. Being an antique and vintage wares dealer in a local antique mall affords me the benefit of fostering finds before deciding to sell them. Such was the case with the French crystal ruby red goblets on the table.
Additionally, a good friend gifted me dinner and salad plates in the Ridgway of Staffordshire "Windsor" pattern from her mother-in-law's estate late last winter, of which I used the dinner plates here. I sourced the Royal Stafford "Christmas Home" salad plates and tartan chargers in after-Christmas sales last year, online.
I recently purchased the tablecloth(s) when I saw one in both round and oblong sizing, as I have both size tables. Once the plate stacks were set on the table, I knew I wanted another layer - a solid - to break between the plate patterns and the tablecloth pattern. My ivory velvet placemats worked. Red became my accent with flatware and napkins, to go along with the red crystal. The deer in forest glitter globe was an estate sale find - new in box - during summer. It was originally sold by Cracker Barrel. I already had a set of four brass deer, so I started leaning into thoughts of using both as part of the dining room decor for Christmas. That's when I put my reindeer sleigh napkin rings to use.The jeweled trees, smaller brass deer, and glitter globe became my centerpiece. The globe is the only way I like glitter - contained! The larger of my brass deer were placed on the fireplace ledge with greenery and lights.Last year I styled my entire dining room around nutcrackers, and this year I didn't even bring them out. Instead, I worked the bookcase with a few other vintage finds.
In fact, the only things not vintage, estate sale finds on this bookcase are the clock (a wedding present), the ornaments on the second shelf, and my nativity on the third shelf. I love the "Light of the World" tiny framed print of Jesus on the top shelf. The small landscapes on the bottom shelf are hand-painted Wheeling Cushion tiles (1913-1960) of winter scenes, and the bottle brush trees in red wooden pots date from the 1950s.
As mentioned early in this post, my table was the first decorating I did for Christmas. I finished decorating the tree and everything else on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The view above is looking from the dining room toward the family room. Mr. P. was watching television when I took the photo, so you also get its reflection from the wall opposite the bookcase. #reallife
You can see glimpses of the bookcase in the family room, where I decorated mostly with Santas (thinking of 2 year old granddaughter Jacqueline's visits). Below is a collage of the great room vignettes.
The main tree is in the dining room, visible from most angles throughout the house's main level.
Funny side note: we have a brass mail slot in our 1938 home's original door. My tree lights are connected to a whistle switch from the 1970s, a very low-tech thing. Each time the mailman opens the slot and drops mail, the high pitch of the slamming of the brass slot kicks on (or off) the tree lights.
Lights elsewhere are mostly on timers, including the table, candles, a few trees and bookcase shelves.Source List for Christmas Home Tablescape

ReplyDeleteMerry Tuesday Rita! Your home is so cozy and welcoming decorated for Christmas! I love seeing all your vignettes and collections…the fireplace and twinkling lights…*sigh*. I laughed out loud at the brass mail slot kicking off the tree lights…so ‘Chevy Chase-ish’… I can imagine the frustration π Love the shot of your table with your tree and into your room beyond! Your table is the perfect mix, without being ultra feminine with the plate layers, tartan plaid accents and ivory velvet placemats. The greenery and berry sprigs on your tablecloth provide just the right amount of pattern and interest. I have those same reindeer sleigh napkin rings which are some of my favorites. Your new globe makes a lovely centerpiece and your comment about glitter…too funny. I always end up with glitter trails in the house from our winter tree I put up in January. Hosting Christmas breakfast for 7 sounds so much more manageable and merrier than Christmas Eve for 40, kudos to your daughter for picking up the reins! As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table. Thank you so much for all your organizing efforts for these hops, I so appreciate you!❤️ π
Merry Tuesday, Rita. I love seeing your home with your collections, vignettes, and of course, your beautiful Tablescape. The above the table shot puts everything in perspective. I always enjoy your mix of antique, vintage, and new. The Stafford plates are similar to some I have and I think they just say old-time Christmas. They are stunning as the top layer of your plate stack. The CL placemats, WS tartan chargers, ruby red goblets, and the red handled flatware work seamlessly together for a festive table. The globe centerpiece is perfect with its contained glitter π I am always vacuuming glitter well into January! It is a pleasure to join you at one of your stunning and curated tables. Thank you for hosting and all that you do to make each hop successful! Merry Christmas✨❤️π✨
ReplyDeleteLovely, your vintage pieces bring so much elegance to your table. Love the ruby glasses.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks lovely Rita, you have been busy! You not only shared your beautiful Christmas tablescape, but we got a whole home tour! I love your beautiful tablescape, the centerpiece featuring the snow globe is so so pretty {Love the video!} I love the jeweled trees too. The plates are wonderful, there's no place like home for Christmas! They look great with the plaid chargers, red napkins, flatware and glasses. J is going to ooh and aah over all the pretty vignettes around your home. That is too funny about the mailman triggering the tree lights! Thank you for being our fabulous hostess and I hope you enjoy every moment of December in your beautifully decorated home!

Your home is so festive for the holidays! Your tree looks lovely as well as all of your other decor. That's so interesting about your mail delivery!! As for your table, I adore the table cloth, such a pretty design and your stack of dishes is so beautiful. What a spectacular table to welcome your guests! Happy holidays to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI love the bits of plaid, but I have to tell you that not all of the chargers line up. 3 are straight on, and one is "off". My eye is twitching! LOL I also like the plaid tree skirt. The table cloth is nice, too. I wish you a happy new year!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Rita, and wishes for a wonderful holiday season. I loved all the vintage touches throughout your decor. I had serious crystal envy for the French red glasses. It is so nice to see glimpses of the rest of your home all decorated for Christmas. The fire was a special touch. The mailbox "high tech" is priceless and I imagine creates a few laughs as the day progresses. Your tablecloth is a lovely base for everything that follows and the overall look is quite festive. I do like the contrast of the tartan plates with the rest of the table. The touches of solid red provided by the napkins are perfect to finish off the look. I know your Family will enjoy all the vignettes and creative touches throughout your decor. Thanks so much for putting this great hop together. Happy Hollidays!
ReplyDeleteRita, I love the pattern you selected and it pairs so beautifully with your plaid chargers. Everything looks so festive and charming! Thanks so much for hosting us and I wish you a joyous Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteRita, merry merry, your home is lovely with your prized Christmas collections. Your table is so pretty with the Royal Stafford plate's, CL placemats and the fun plaid chargers. The snow globe is adorable, so perfect for my deer table, we have a Cracker Barrel not too far from us. The tree looks so festive in the background. So funny about the mail slot….love ❤️ the overhead shot. The cozy fire completes the whole look. Thank you again for hosting and keeping us all organized. Merry Christmas.π☃️
ReplyDeleteRita, home for Christmas is where I like to be as well! You have certainly made your home holiday ready with thoughtful warm and charming touches. I love the table setting with the mix of patterns; my favorite way to set a table. You know I admire your passion for vintage and antique pieces. My wooden soldier from you and your sister is still one of my favorite pieces to bring out each Christmas. He is in my kitchen sitting room this year, standing proud, guarding my mini tree of copper candy molds, a collection that Monnie started for me early in our marriage. His love of copper, and my love of smalls make it a perfect collection to cherish.
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine the delight in little J's eyes as they sparkle with excitement over all the Santa figures, the snow globe, and other Christmas treasures about your home. Thank you for sharing with us in this post. My eyes are sparkling with excitement scrolling through your post. Happy Holidays!
Your table is so pretty, Rita! And I appreciate that you made a video of the centerpiece: The deer in the forest glitter globe is so much fun AND festive! The plates with the winter houses on them are so pretty. Your whole plate stack is pretty, each element! My favorites are the ruffled ivory velvet placemats. They make your stacks pop! Your tablecloth is very pretty: I love the traditional evergreen and berries pattern. Thanks for giving us a tour of your Christmas decor. Your tree and vignettes are beautiful! I love the artwork of Jesus as the Light of the World. Everything on your shelves is lovely! Thanks again for hosting. This is my favorite hop of the year! Merry Christmas, Sweet Friend!

ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Holly! Wishing you a joyous Christmas season. I appreciate your visit.
DeleteYour table scape is so pretty. I love that tablecloth and how you stacked the plates. Love those patterns all together. Looking beautiful. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI always smile when I hear you speak of fostering your estate sale finds until it is time to move them on! What a great idea -- definitely the way to go. Your table is charming. I love the woodland theme and that snow globe is really fabulous. I love the deer, too, and how beautifully the china reflects your theme. And the Santa touches will enchant your sweet J. Vintage is certainly one of my favorite "styles" and you do it so well. Your home looks absolutely lovely, Rita, as warm and as special as you are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, wintry table you've designed for Christmas, Rita! It seems rather magical, with hints of snow and woods and holiday icons. The tablecloth is a pretty base for the plate stack, a mix of textures, patterns and colors. I'm smitten with the napkin rings! Thank you for hosting another wonderful hop. Have a very merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteRita, thank you for the lovely Christmas tour of all your beautiful collections. How great that so many of your family members gather together to celebrate Christmas together!! Your home is so warm and welcoming, Since I have some of the Royal Stafford Christmas Home salad plates , I love your new/old Ridgewood, Windsor plates, they make the perfect frame for those pretty plates. Your table cloth is the perfect choice as well as the deep red goblets and napkins. I had to zoom in on those gorgeous napkin rings to see all the details - This makes for a striking table! Your fireplace is giving me the warm and cozies!! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas seasonπ²❤️thank you for all you do!!!
ReplyDeleteYour table, home, and welcoming door look a Christmas Home! I have only two of those luncheon plates, Rita, but I just love that pattern. Your tablecloth is so pretty and I’m totally with you on glitter…must be contained! Thank you for sharing all your loveliness with us. ❤️π❤️
ReplyDeleteRita, your table is beautiful! I think it was the tablecloth that first drew my eye - I don't think I would have been able to resist that had it been in our HomeSense here. It is a great backdrop for the fabulous plate stack you have put together. I love mixing patterns but I also like how you separated the tartan chargers from the tablecloth with the ivory velvet placemats - it lets both patterns be "special". The RS salads are perfect for your theme. The ruby red goblets were a fantastic find and how great is it that you can foster. I love the further pop of red from the napkins and the napkin rings are darling. The vintage vignettes are so pretty and the Christmas tree looks lovely. You have been busy! Thank you for hosting another wonderful and inspiring blog hop. You are much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteThat glitter globe is gorgeous and what a wonderful find! So much inspiration in that one element alone. Of course I adore the plaid and woodland theme, and those fabulous ruby goblets. This is so cozy and lovely. Makes you want to cuddle up in front of the fireplace and enjoy dessert! Love all your vignettes, Rita. Happy Week!
ReplyDeleteOh Rita! I am in love with all the vintage touches on your table. Those ruby red glasses are stunning, and such a gorgeous shade of red! Your place settings are the perfect mix of patterns. I so enjoy pairing different patterns and you have done it so effortlessly! Your tablecloth is right up my lane! The glitter globe is so fun. We visit Cracker Barrel whenever we head "over the river" (we are literally across the Niagara river from the US) which hasn't been in quite a while. They have so many fun things, in addition to some great meals. I love the whistle switch. What a fun idea! Thank you again for another year of hosting the blog hops. You are so organized and it makes it a pleasure to not only participate, but to anticipate each and every one! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLove it all Rita. Especially the added glow around your home. And those dishes are perfect. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI adore your Christmas tablescape! Everything about it says Christmas with your touch of perfection. The added placemats set of the entire theme with the gorgeous plate and those awesome red tumblers.
ReplyDeleteMerry Friday, Rita! I have loved seeing your home decorated for the holidays. It looks like such a warm, inviting, and happy place to celebrate the season. Your Christmas tree is beautiful, and you have so many vintage pretties including your Santa collection and Nativity. Your table is gorgeous! I am swooning over the Christmas plates, and they pair so well with the plaid plates and vintage French Ruby glassware. It all looks so beautiful! I wish you most happy and wonderful Christmas season! Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely and festive table and home Rita! Love that oval table! And how pretty are those crystal trees in the centerpiece? At night I'm sure it's magical.
