O Christmas Tree Tablescape

Hello, and Happy Holidays! Today I am sharing a tablescape with you with hopes of getting you excited for what is my favorite holiday - Christmas!

I'm also hosting a panoply of seventeen additional table enthusiasts who are sharing their Christmas tablescape ideas with you. Their links will be near the end of this post, so get ready to be inspired!
My theme for this O Christmas Tree tablescape started with a trip to World Market in Cincinnati back in September. I'm always trying to flip through my rolodex brain of tablescaping elements as I shop, knowing certain elements will interchange nicely with things I already have. I saw the tree-shaped salad plates in a neutral glaze which appealed immediately to me. I grabbed those and four napkin rings and called it good.
Darn that Kohl's cash and those coupons you can stack! They had me looking for absolutely nothing I needed, but then again, being a dishaholic has nothing to do with need. I saw the dinner plates, and with all the discounts, I hit the 'place order' button.
I knew I had other elements that would work, and I was really liking the look of a natural, outdoorsy vibe which started with the salad plates. Chargers, appetizer plates, and two layers of placemats of twig and faux cypress I already had.
The bowls pictured above, used as votive candle holders and filled with fresh cranberries and holly sprigs from the garden, match nearly exactly to the dinner plates. They were purchased five years apart.

I wanted to keep my centerpiece simple, so I used two wooden chargers I already had as risers, and placed four of the most darling bottle brush trees I've ever found in vintage finds. They are in red wooden flower pots and are much more substantial than those you find today. They're joined by three graduated rattan [resin] trees. A string of fairy lights run through them all, and clippings of holly and nandina from the garden finish the look.
After shopping World Market in September, I kept my eye on the coordinating beaded table runners they offered. A really good sale was calling my name, and so I bought two 36" runners. I placed them in opposite directions of each other, balancing the table look. Often times I will find a runner I love, yet the design is one directional, meaning those who sit on the opposite side of the table in which it's placed are looking at it upside down. Two runners with one-directional pattern placed side-by-side in opposite directions solves that conundrum for me. The April Cornell natural tablecloth is an often used staple in my linens.
My crystal and glassware choices for this tablescape started with my much-loved Glen Plaid by Ralph Lauren ceystal. The classic Spode Christmas Tree wine glasses were a no-brainer impulse buy when I made a trip to my favorite consignment shop for its Christmas Open House. This is the shop where I recently swapped out my dining room furniture. For a song, I bought the wine glasses and napkins, both never before use and with original tags/stickers..
The piece de resistance for me with this tablescape came with the flatware. This Italian made, stainless set is trimmed with a polymer handle made to look like leather. It feels like leather! It says it is dishwasher safe with a gel detergent, but I will hand wash this special set. I'm using four of the five pieces of each place setting.
With a combination of old and new items, my O Christmas Tree theme evolved into a natural outdoorsy woodland look that could easily have a lodge as its central gathering place for a holiday meal. Or, be just as cozy in my Christmas cottage home or yours!

  1. Good morning Rita, I’m loving your ‘O Christmas Tree’ table! All your table elements appeal to my nature loving side. I have the bird salad plates in the Holly & Ivy pattern, but the dinner plates are so versatile for a woodland-themed table. So many wonderful details that I love from wonderful textured twig mats, plaid chargers, handsome flatware (swoon!), wonderful tree plates and napkin rings. I love your use of the two beaded runners end-to-end in opposite directions on your table. Your addition of the cranberries in your bowls with votives and sprigs of holly is such a festive and easy touch too. Thank you so much for all your organizing efforts in our hops. 🍽️I so appreciate you! Wishing you a Merry December! πŸŽ„❤️

  2. Good morning Rita. I love your woodland-themed table that is a favorite theme for me. The tree shaped salad plates are perfect. What a wonderful idea to use two runners in different directions to be eye pleasing to all sitting around your table. The twig placemats add another element of the woodland theme. The flatware by Vivo Veronika is amazing. I haven’t seen it before. Bottle brush trees in red pots are the perfect centerpiece with the graduated rattan (resin) trees. Of course, your place settings carry out your theme with the bird salad plates and the Holly and Ivy dinner plates. I would love to have a seat at your table!

Thank you for organizing the blog hops, I am grateful for you. Wishing you my friend, all the joy that the Christmas season offers!

  3. Merry Tuesday, Rita. Your O Christmas tree table is filled with so many natural elements that I love. Your twig placemats add such wonderful texture. I am swooning over your Holly and Ivy dinner plates—such a perfect dish for a Christmas tree table. But then there is your new flatware. I love it, and I would have thought it was leather. Lucky you!
Your Christmas Trees for your centerpiece are quite lovely on top of the beaded runner.
What a beautiful table for Christmas, especially in front of the fireplace.
    Merry December, my friend!

  8. Oh, my! Rita, I adore the Woodsy Vibe! Those salad plates are tempting. I may need to see if they are still available. The twig placemats, the beaded runner, the flatware, those special neutral tree shaped plates, a touch of plaid . . . I could go on and on about this beautiful setting. Your always inspire me, Rita! Thank you for organizing this hop. I truly appreciate your time and effort and feel honored to be included. Merry, Merry! May you enjoy a beautiful holiday season with your precious family and many friends.

  9. Rita, first thank you so much for putting together this blog hop...and I am so glad that the "live" at 7...is going smoothly which is a credit to your organizational skills and attention to details. Your Christmas tree table is lovely. I am drawn to the woodsy/plaid feel as that was my intent for my contribution this year. Great minds think alike as the saying goes. I actually used my stash this year though I was tempted many times to hit the "buy now" button as you did. There are always temptations that I have to simply look the other way. I love the idea of two table runners in opposite directions to allow the diners on both ends to enjoy the pretty scene. I am going to "steal" that idea. The bowls do look like they match the dinner plates and the addition of a votive and berries is another idea I might "borrow". As usual, I love your overhead photo shot...do you stand on a ladder? Merry Christmas my friend and thank you for your friendship cultivated through blogging and the Big 12. πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸΉπŸ½️πŸ€πŸˆ⛸️πŸ₯πŸ”–✝️

  10. Good morning, Rita! A visit to your table has been the perfect start to my day. The sweet Christmas tree plates and napkin rings tie beautifully together with the plates you found at Kohls. I thought the plates were antique. If I saw them, I would have had to spend my Kohls cash on them too! The beaded table runners are gorgeous. I love how you layered the two on your table. I'm going to borrow that idea. Your centerpiece of bottled brush trees and fresh greens is the perfect finishing touch. Your entire dining room with the fire roaring in the background looks like the most beautiful Christmas setting and like it belongs in a magazine. Sweet friend, thank you so much for graciously inviting me to join these hops. May you have a happy and blessed Christmas Season. Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors

  12. I am getting so many wonderful ideas from all of the tablescapes this morning. Your table is gorgeous! I do love traditional colors at Christmas. I have been wondering what to do with cranberries left over fro Thanksgiving. Your little candle idea is a good one, so I'm going to do that. Thanks for the inspiration, and for hosting.

  13. Rita, your woodland vibe is a lovely table for Christmas. Such darling tree shaped salad plates and tree napkin rings you found at World Market. The festive dinner plates with the plaid are so pretty. How gorgeous are your Glen Plaid by Ralph Lauren crystal glasses sitting side by side along with your wonderful Spode goblets. I so admire your thrifty finds.
A pretty plate stack with your twig placemats and red napkin. Love the wooden rounds for displaying your pretty Christmas trees surrounded by fairy lights. The rattan tree is eye catching. Love, love the beaded table runner. You are so smart to buy two and display them perfectly, so guests on both sides can admire them. I always admire your overhead shots of your table. I adore seeing your lovely fireplace in the background. Thank you for your amazing organizational skills in setting up these fun blog hops. Wishing you a Merry Christmas with your sweet family.

  14. Such a beautiful table, Rita, and it shows especially well in your overhead picture. I was struck by how the twig placemats blended so well with the beaded Christmas tree runner in the center of the table. Using a white, textured tablecloth definitely gives the impression of snow-covered fields where Christmas trees abound in their natural habitat.
The white Christmas tree plates work perfectly at the top of your plate stack.
The Holly and Ivy dinner plates have all the colors on the table and a little pop of red that pulls in the napkins. The overall effect is one of a lovely, snowy winter scene that is one of the reasons we love this season so much.
Thanks so much for all the work you do to put this Hop together. It is appreciated. Wishing you and your family a joyous and peace filled Christmas season.
