Valentine's Day 2026: Forget Me Not Tablescape

Welcome to my blog, Panoply! I'm so happy you've stopped by. Today I am sharing a winter tablescape with you, this one being set for a Valentine's Day celebration. I have simply titled it "Forget Me Not".
Today is the first of a series of tablescape blog hops I am hosting with a cadre of table enthusiasts who create an experience with dining by dressing the table. You will find their links near the end of this post.
I am one who loves Christmas decor in traditional reds and greens, and last year I did, in fact, continue my February table with reds. However, it is the calm and quiet of shades of whites and soft colors that really feels so good to me after the Holly Jolly season is over. I have a small antiquing business within our local antique mall, and the overwhelming feeling of cleanup and storage irritates me right after Christmas until the job is complete, both at home and in our booth spaces.
I love pulling out the light blues, whites, and creams again come January, a colorway I've settled into consistently since moving into this cottage house in late 2021. My table this year was inspired by an estate sale find in April 2025 of several random blue and white pieces of china styled in a cabinet.
I bought all four of these pieces  (clockwise: England, Germany, Japan, England). but it's the bottom left piece that inspired this table. It's called Forget Me Not by John Aynsley & Sons, produced between 1985-1991. With only one plate in hand, the hunt was on! Success came with a seller on eBay who had both the luncheon and dinner plates and who accepted my offer submitted for both,
The symbolism of the forget me not is the promise of lasting love and fidelity, often exchanged between loved ones. It's also a powerful symbol for remembering those who have passed, used by groups like the Alzheimer's Association to raise awareness and hope. Its origin stems from a medieval legend where a knight who, while picking the flowers for his beloved, falls into a river, and shouts "forget me not!" while tossing the posy to his lady.
While forget me nots were not available as posy pockets for my table, I chose instead to use a chinoiserie planter full of paperwhites. This faux floral was another estate sale find in 2024.
Sunlight streaming in through the dining room windows gives a soft glow to the table.
Candlelights in crystal holders, along with a string of fairy lights woven along a faux fur runner, speak to both winter and warmth. The fireplace in the dining room adds additional glow light. The greenery and lights there are a spillover from Christmas decor, suitable throughout winter. Ivory velvet hearts from Etsy and sky blue ramekins from Fiestaware are placed on the table, as are heart napkin rings used on a prior year's table.
I love using my vintage 1939 Prelude sterling flatware for winter tables like this one, and the glass chargers too. They look like ice, a reality for our area in winter. The napkins were a gift from my sister a year ago, and have matching placemats not used here. The napkin rings continue the ice crystal appearance with their beading. The tablecloth creates the image of snow drifting across land where the wind blows.
The Gorham crystal stemware dates to the early 1950s, and was the wedding pattern of my sister's neighbor and good friend who was purging her home goods. Even in purging, I think I'd hold onto wedding selections!

As I planned my table for Valentine's Day, I also always have Mr. P.'s birthday in mind, which is this week. We will enjoy a home-cooked meal and cake right here at home with this table, and enjoy it through the following weeks for Valentine's Day.

  1. Good morning Rita, Your beautiful table is fitting for our chilly 12 degree morning! I love the soothing blue and white color palette inspired by your ‘Forget Me Not’ estate and eBay find dishes. The forget me not symbolism is so fitting for Valentine’s Day and I love the addition of the silver and crystal accents on your table, for a frosty winter. The ivory winter hearts, textured snowy white tablecloth and fireplace glow all make for a cozy setting for Mr. P’s birthday celebration! 🎂 We received freezing rain and sleet with a just a few snowflakes courtesy of Winter Storm Fern. We’re thankful not have lost power like so many. Our front door steps face north, so it’ll we treacherous trying to navigate that icy layer with our freeze and thaw cycle this week. Thanks so much for your organizing efforts for our hop. As always, I so appreciate your efforts. Stay warm and cozy this week. ❄️🩵

  5. Hey Rita! Your table reminds me of winter and the forget me not story is a delight. I identify with the snow drift centerpiece as it reminds me of the wind blown snow drifts of my childhood years in Kansas...thankfully we have none of that here in Florida. I am sure you were so happy to find your blue and white dishware on EBAY to match your estate sale find. I love that resource but sometimes the prices and shipping charges negate my desire to acquire matching pieces. Your table is perfect for Mr. P's birthday celebration in shades of blue and silver as well as a sweet celebration of the 14th day of February. Your overhead shots are legendary and lovely. I imagine myself perched on a ladder overhead and forgetting 'where' I am, as I try to focus and shoot that perfectly angled photo of my table. I would most likely step off when I should be stepping down. 🥰. Your fireplace looks so inviting as you cozy up on this, Cupids' special day of the year. Thanks for organizing and putting up with 17 different personalities and their tables. (don't know how the Jayhawks could lose to the Mountaineers and shut out the Cyclones!...guess the old saying...'on any given Sunday' applies to our fickle team.🥴) Stay warm and keep the lights on...❤️🥰❤️

  8. Well, blue is probably my favorite color -- all shades -- so seeing this table is a joy. I love the plates. Just love them. And it is a cool, wintry table and wonderful contrast. I can't get away from red in my house (even the rug is red!) but seeing this fresh take on Valentine's day and love with a color I love is a real joy!

  11. I never would have thought to have created a Valentine’s Day table in colors other than pink or red, but you have really pulled it off here. What a fabulous estate find those plates were! I also love those pale blue heart-shaped dishes. Really well done here, Rita.

  12. Rita, your table is perfect for today's weather here! We have 14 inches of snow!! Right now it is a beautiful blanket of sparkling snow - much like your beautiful, serene, sparkling table! I love the texture in your white table cloth and the sparkle that your glass chargers bring to your pretty table. Your wonderful Forget Me Not china has such a lovely meaning for a Valentine's table. I am babysitting today since school is closed - they may even spend the night because we are pretty sure there is not going to be school tomorrow because the temperatures -the high is single digits and the lows are negative numbers even without the windchill factor!! Most everything has been closed for the last few days - but I am not going out anyway!! Good thing I tend to be a home body. Thank you for hosting another wonderful hop!! Enjoy Mr. P's birthday!!❤️❄️💙

  15. Rita, I love your table! It's a great combination of winter and Valentine's Day! The hearts are beautiful! The chargers are gorgeous! I love the plate stack and the silverware. The napkins and napkin rings are lovely. I'm going to make our Valentine's table a combination of winter and hearts as we rarely see this kind of weather. Many areas have ice and snow in our area along with subfreezing temps so this is the perfect tablescape this year! We're normally in the 50's but we're well below freezing but hope to get to freezing today! 🥶 Fortunately, we kept our power because we got 4 inches of snow and sleet with a small bit of freezing rain. About an hour south of us is devastated because they had freezing rain. There are trees down everywhere and there's sporadic power. We had that happen in 1994, so we were concerned it would happen again. We're praying for our neighbors and we're hoping the roads will thaw by Monday. They may thaw before then but they will refreeze because of the low temperature. I don't even want to think about what this has done to the landscaping! Stay safe! Clara❤️

  16. Thanks for hosting this blog hop party, Rita!

I love your table so much. Forget-me-nots are among my favorite flowers, and I just drew a few about two months ago. I love your pretty plates: What a delightful find! Your table is simply stunning, and I can't think of a better sentiment for a Valentine's Day table.

  17. I enjoyed the story about the hunt for the plates.
Forget-me-nots grow wild along the river I grew up by on my parents farm. They are thick as can be. I do love walking along them during the early summer. The river rushing, the sun dancing on the water and the forget-me-nots happy as can be.
    Happy Valentine's Day,
    Carla

  18. Rita, I am in total agreement with you. The delicate blue and white colors of your table definitely brings about calm. It is a welcomed change from all of the various colors of Christmas with sometimes multiple colors all over the room. I love how you decided to showcase it in from of your fireplace. So cozy and serene. Your variety of plates are such a perfect find for your Forget Me Not Table. I am so happy you were able to find more in Ebay. It is a romantic table. The soft fabrics and candlelight is so welcoming. I can easily see lingering at this table long after the dessert. With a glass of wine, the snow and cold weather would be the furtherest from anyone's thinking. Happy Valentine's Day!

  19. Winter is definitely making a statement this week with all the winter storms but a blue and white table setting is one of my favorites. It suggests the pristine snowy white landscape with a soft blue sky overhead while we are toasty warm inside. The soft fabrics and candlelight add to the ambiance creating a lovely romantic setting for Mr. P's birthday and for Valentine's Day. Forgetmenots are a perfect flower for both occasions. I know you will enjoy them both in this lovely setting.
