Summer Garden Party Tablescape

Hello, readers. Today I'm inviting you to step into a virtual garden party tablescape - being held inside where it's nice and cool - to celebrate spring segueing into summer.
Spring blooms in my new garden gave me the inspiration for how I decided to create my tablescape. You can see that post from my new home's first spring here.
Although my florals on the table come from my faux collection, several of these blooms were in my garden too, including lilacs, bearded iris and tulips.
The dish elements I used were pooled from both vintage and newer items, with bursts of colors combined, intended to complement the table florals.. The charger pair lend an oriental vibe, and provide the basis for the Dorothy Draper Greenbrier dinner plate with classic rhododendron pattern. The rhododendron is our West Virginia state flower, and they are currently blooming throughout the state. The blue and white chinoiserie salad tops the plate stack.
Once the plate stack was assembled, accessories added included the gold topiary napkin ring on the white napkin with playfully preppy pink border.
White handled flatware was chosen for grounding the place settings. Glassware with a hint of both blue and purple tints meld the colors seen in the garden and their side-by-side placement on the color wheel.
Vintage, white Battenburg lace placemats became the tabletop runners, reminding me of such garden flowers as alyssum ground cover or sweet autumn clematis vines.
The place settings became an integral part of the garden party table.
Customary to my style, I like to set my dining table and let it become part of my seasonal decor. This table setting works well with my vintage painting I still have on the wall in my dining room. Since we typically eat casually in the great room when it's just the two of us, this remains set until used or changed for my next decor mood.
This tablescape today is among nearly two dozen bloggers who I've organized into one style showcase of summer tablescapes. You will find all the links to those participating beneath the photo below.
Pour yourself a nice iced tea or other favorite summer beverage and be prepared to be wowed by all the variety and talent of the bloggers participating in this summer tablescape blog hop!

  3. Good Morning Rita! What a beautiful Summer garden party tablescape. The colors and patterns you chose to coordinate your tablescape are simply lovely! I love the layers you created with all of your beautiful china pieces. One of my favorite's are the Dorothy Draper Vintage Greenbriar Rhododendrum plates!! When we were fortunate enough to stay at the Greenbriar years ago, I purchased just one of the luncheon plates and it is one of my most prized possessions. Great minds think alike! Have a wonderful week!

  4. Wow, Rita, So much to love on your table. I love the Asian theme and how you showed your personality using it. Thanks for the source list. I have scrolled through several times being intrigued by the chargers, napkins, napkin rings and vintage plates. The estate sale chinoiserie vases are so versatile and a great find. I love the colors in the florals and love the pictures of your garden flowers. Fun to learn that the rhododendron is your state flower. How special to have those Dorothy Draper plates! Have you used those before?
Thanks for organizing us on these hops. You do a great job!

  6. It's such a happy table, Rita. I love the dishes -- and the color! It's so beautiful. I especially love that you add your wonderful finds to it all. I'm guessing you've read Dorothy Draper's books. I love her!

  7. Rita, I love color and you have a lovely dose on this beautiful tablesetting. You have mixed a touch of Asian, traditional, and preppy with flair. I have always admired Dorothy Draper’s work and I do love the rhododendron plates…those chargers are amazing as are the topiary napkin rings. Battenburg lace is always so pretty and I thought it was a runner, clever idea to lay out placemats. A special thank you for hosting and your great organizational skills!

  8. Wow Rita, I love the colors, textures and Asian vibe to your beautiful garden table! You still manage to surprise me with tableware I haven't seen before. The charger pair is stunning! I even went to see if they were still available, but alas no. How perfect are those topiary napkin rings for the table? You find and style together the most amazing things. Wish I had your gift! Thank you for hosting our large group, and squeezing me in a tad late.

  10. Oh, Rita, how beautiful! I love those oriental chargers! Your entire plate stack is so beautifully selected and put together. I am so lucky to have been able to have enjoyed Dorothy Draper's style at the Greenbrier on a couple of visits. I love leaving a table set, also to enjoy seeing the color and styling as I walk past the dining room instead of an empty table. Thank you so much for carrying on this lovely tradition, I am so happy I was able to join in this time, life is almost back to normal!

  12. Gorgeous as always Rita! Your faux flower arrangements are always so pretty. I've loved watching your gardens take shape on the blog and you've done a great job recreating it with your centerpiece. Your tablescape is aptly named since it looks exactly like I would expect to see at a garden party right down to the flatware. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week!

  13. Rita, I love your Asian flair to this table. Your white Battenburg placemats look so striking using them as a table runner. The Asian charger is lovely along with the gold topiary napkin ring. The Dorothy Draper Greenbrier dinner plate is fabulous in your pretty plate stack. Setting a pretty table is so joyful when left. Adding the blue chinoiserie completes this beautiful table. I am always in awe of your findings. Thank you for organizing this tablescape blog hop. Happy Summer.

  14. Rita, first off, thank you for organizing this hop. Always a treat to be a part of one of your tablescape hops. I appreciate being included!
Your garden party has me swooning. I want to put on an imaginary floppy hat and glide through your pretty garden on the way to this welcoming table. Love all the colors, just like a garden in bloom! The Chinoiserie charger is a fabulous piece. I've never seen the pattern. It's the perfect base for the Dorthy Draper plate. We spent a week at the Greenbrier in 2000. West Virginia and the Greenbrier did not disappoint.
I like the idea of leaving a table set all the time. We do that too. Sometimes I remove the plate stack and simply place our dinner plate filled on the charger. Monnie would rather keep meals simple.
    All beautiful, my friend.

  15. Rita, I love the colors on your table, especially the colors in your pagoda plates! They do complement the flowers well. I am a lover of Battenburg lace. I think it's summery, and it grounds the elements on your table so well. Your painting is so pretty, and I don't know how I missed that because I normally notice art first. I want to thank you for hosting these blog hops. I know you put a lot of work into them, and I'm grateful that you do it!

  16. Rita, I love to garden. You had my attention when you linked your outside landscape flowers to the faux ones on the dining tablescape. The burst of color in the plate stacks, flowers and blue vases feels like summer has arrived in you dining room. I don't have a separate dining area but love the idea of setting the room up for nearly the duration of the summer season. It sets the tone and feel for the entire season!

    1. Thank you so much for your visit and kind comments! This house actually didn't have a dining room either. What we use as the dining room was a formal living room, but we had the DR furniture and I couldn't decide how to make it all fit in the great room. I bought a smaller, drop leaf table for casual dining in the great room and flipped the LR into the DR space!

  17. Rita, Your tablescape is beautiful! I love the charger plates. They're gorgeous! The various colors do represent all the colorful flowers in your yard that you shared previously. The centerpieces complete the theme. The summer blog hop was so enjoyable. Everyone provided some really good ideas. Thanks for organizing it. We also eat in the great room so I decorate our tables to enjoy as well. I got some good ideas from everyone. Enjoy your evening. Clara❤️

  18. I love all the patterned pieces of your dish stack, Rita, and especially on the Battenburg. Your faux flowers really look so pretty in your vases and with your painting. I like to keep my table set. My late hubby always loved when I did that.

  19. What a wonderful table! I love how you leave it set up as part of your decor; I bet I would see a different aspect every time I looked at it! I don't have a separate dining area--I would probably have another craft project spread out on it if I did!

  20. I love summer garden parties (or at least the idea of them since it's already hot here in Georgia). And you've perfectly replicated the feeling of one inside, with an array of flowers and colors and patterns on the table. I love the mix of plates. I love the blues of the glassware and ceramic vases. I love the playfulness of the pink bordered napkins against the formality of the Battenburg lace placemats. Really lovely! And thank you for organizing a wonderfully fun blog hop.

  23. Rita, I always enjoy the unique pieces that you bring to the table. I absolutely love your beautiful, pastel color charger plates with an Asian pattern. It sets the entire theme for all of your beautiful garden flowers. The lace placemats and runner really plays up the elegance of the plate stack. The mixture of patterns from your vases really enhances the Asian garden feel. The tablescape does work so lovely with your art work in the room. Have a wonderful summer, Rita.

  24. Good morning, Rita. I always thoroughly enjoy seeing what magic you have created. Your table is lovely and amazing. You truly have a green thumb with planting your irises in the fall and they bloomed for you this spring. They can often pout when moved.
Your lace placemats and table runner bring an air of enchantment to the table, so lovely.
Enjoy these summer days, they will pass all too quickly.

  28. Rita, what a lovely combination of colors in a terrific oriental setting. Loved the bamboo chargers and the way they set off the plates. Oriental plantings are precise and planned. Using a topiary napkin ring really reinforced that design element. The use of multiple bowls of flowers allows everyone at the table to enjoy a bit of garden magic. Thanks so much for putting this "hop" together. It's always a pleasure to see so many creative tablescapes.

  31. Rita, once again a very beautiful table and I love the idea that you keep it up for a while. I'm not much of a thrifter (not a lot of estate sales here in Calgary lol and our thrift stores, well...) so its always really interesting to see what other people find. Everything on your table is just pleasing on many levels, but I adore those charger plates - how very unique and unexpected! And those napkin rings are definitely one of a kind! Just lovely. Wishing you a wonderful summer with perfect temperatures and just the right amount of rain and humidity.

    1. Kim, thank you so much for your visit and comments. Having moved back into this home after a huge downsizing,, estate sales have truly been my go to source, especially given supply chain issues since Covid. I hope your summer is the kind that makes you want to write about, "how I spent my summer vacation", even if just a staycation is what's planned! Cheers!

The plate stack is so striking from the pretty floral plates to the chinoiserie chargers. The blue and white vases with an assortment of blooms makes a showstopping centerpiece. I would not have known they were faux if you wouldn't have told us. I just thought they were from your garden. Everything looks absolutely beautiful! Thanks so much for hosting this fun gathering. Happy Summer!

  35. Rita, you know I'm loving all of the vintage goodness on your table! Those lace placemats are so dainty and beautiful. The plate stack with the pops of blue and pink makes me smile. I love the Asian flair, and how you incorporated the vintage floral painting in the background into the tablescape. I like to keep my dining room table set as part of the decor, too, as we eat our everyday meals at the kitchen table. Thanks for keeping us organized. You are a wonderful blog hop hostess! I hope you enjoy the summer in your new garden :)
