Feline Fondness for Fall Tablescape

Welcome to my blog, Panoply! Today I'm experimenting a bit with some fall decor elements in a new tablescape I'm calling Feline Fondness for Fall.  I love fall and I love just about anything leopard.
When it comes to fall fashion, several staples may come to mind if you ask any trend-conscious man or woman: blazers, scarves, jeans, boots, etc. I'm no expert, but I bet leopard is considered a secret weapon in any woman's wardrobe, particularly in fall and winter. So, is there any reason to doubt a little leopard can be that same secret weapon in home decor as well? Or even in tablescaping? Raise your hands if you agree! 🙌 A little leopard can go a long way, just like a red lipstick, and it's my springboard in today's table.
First, a thank you to Chloe Crabtree, from the blog, Celebrate and Decoratefor hosting and organizing several bloggers each day this week, to bring you an entire week of fall tablescaping ideas, all listed at the end of this post.
Typical of my personal style, I always like to mix vintage items with anything new, whether it's fashion, home or garden. I also have no problem mixing high- and low-end elements with no bias toward either. Today's table is all that. While the leopard salad plates are the new found fun items on the table, there's plenty of other well-loved elements being incorporated too. See source list for resources.
The tablecloth is a humble dropcloth, and the plaid, mohair lap throw-used-as-runner is a vintage estate find. The napkin rings are old belts, recycled, with added grommets. The napkins, chargers, dinner plates and flatware are all recent years' retail purchases, as are the velvet and felted pumpkins and napkins on the table.
Mid-century wooden candle holders and a silverplate pitcher sit comfortably with Art Deco period salt & pepper shakers. The little acorns are new this year, felted, with real acorn caps attached. The vintage wine sipper acts as a catchall tray for the acorns, but could just as easily serve its intended purpose with wine being served.
Vintage crystal is original 1970s from Lenox, part of my earthy registry choices way back then. Water goblets are interchangeable as wines, and tall glasses are in the same pattern.
Since adding the vintage Japanese folding screen to the dining area wall, the space feels much more inviting, especially for a table setting.
As takeaways for guests, I purchased several vintage, stamped spoons with messages appropriate for the guests and the fall theme. One example is pictured below, next to the felted acorn: "what you think you become". Think about the message intended there. These are great conversation starters, and you can order any message you'd like.
I hope you've found a bit of inspiration for ushering in fall and finding a way to perhaps use some of the things you may already have to create your own style. The source list below gives you a better idea of how I mix things up and, in this case, added the proverbial "red lipstick" of the leopard plates to build upon.

  1. Hi Rita, I’m raising my hand...I’m wild about a little animal print whether it’s a wardrobe or home accessory. You’re style and knack for mixing vintage with new and high with low is one of my favorite things about your tables. I've been a long admirer of those velvet pumpkins with a feather accent and love those stamped spoons. What a gorgeous estate find your mohair lap throw is too! As always it's a treat to blog hop with you, Happy Almost Fall. ♥

  2. Rita, I have been eyeing the leopard plates from Ballard’s and I also just read that leopard is more popular than ever for the fall and winter season. I always have a “little” touch of leopard in each of my rooms. Ok, I love leopard also! I do love your table with the pretty mohair lap throw used as a runner and your mid-century candle stands. The acorns are so cute, were they sourced locally? Using the stamped spoons as a take away gift is a great idea, I may have to borrow from you. I can see many gorgeous tablescapes in the future from your beautiful new home. Lovely, lovely table!

  3. Rita, I'm with you leopard is always a good idea in decor or fashion. I have leopard pillows and towels but no dishes. I'm crazy about your plates and your cute twiggy flatware! You have my heart with all the vintage elements and just the right touch of new via velvet pumpkins with whimsical feathers and darling little acorns! Love the mohair plaid throw and mid- century candlesticks. I got a kick out of " earthy registry choices" as your description of your wedding crystal! Love your fun tablescape.

  4. Rita, both my hands and arms are raised up high, and I'm jumping up and down too! I love leopard and zebra and giraffe and well anything animal print as long as it's faux. I sometimes think there's a little Cruella de Ville in me, at least my wardrobe of animal prints! My youngest son's bedroom (now guest room) is done in a safari look with a leopard print comforter. Love your eclectic and stylish table too. The twig flatware is a fav, and incorporated into my table tomorrow.

  10. Rita, add me to the list of leopard - loving people. And when you mix it up with another favorite, plaid, it sends me into a whirl of excitement. The addition of vintage items and natural items like acorns, pumpkins and feathers and it says everything that is cozy and inviting. I love your guest party favor printed spoons. Is there a particular company which you prefer to purchase them from? What a lovely gift. It is great blog hopping with you.

  18. Rita, here's to fall where ever it is! Ha! I'm all in for this table filled with a mix of old and new, high and low. You do it so seamlessly! I love the touch of leopard. I always think of animal prints as a neutral much like Courtly Check is a neutral for me. They seam to go with everything. I love the idea of the spoons with quotes. I've given some as gifts and received some as gifts. Love the idea of favors for the table.

I love your mid-century candle holders and also your salt and pepper shakers. What stole my heart on your table are the adorable felted acorns. I love those and you'll enjoy using them for fall for many years to come.
