Hello, my pretties, and welcome to Panoply. Come in. Today I have prepared a Spellbound tablescape for you (spells not included!), celebrating the season of Halloween.
Most of what I'm using today I've had for awhile but not used until now. I bought the featured appetizer plates (Spellbound) two years ago but this is their debut. I feel the designs on each of the bat, witch accessories, crow, and black cat are very realistically rendered. Not that I would know what witch accessories look like in real life.😏
The salad plates were an estate sale find last year. They are cast iron (😲), made by Virginia Metalcrafters. There were only three, so I scoured eBay for a fourth, only to find a very similar pewter salad plate. The dinner plates are several years old, first used here. The tablecloth overlay was first used here.
Once I started pulling elements together, it became pretty clear that this tablescape would take on a monochromatic appearance to deliver the drama I was going for. The tablescape didn't seem to lend itself to flowers as a centerpiece. Instead, I brought out a pumpkin with crow perched upon it which I had also purchased last year. It sits in the center of a feathered wreath with only hints of purple on the backs of the feathers.
I didn't even remember buying the napkin rings when going through my inventory, but they were still in their original packaging, so they must've been purchased last year, too. The beading adds a bit of sparkle.
Longtime readers, did you notice anything different in my dining room? I did a switch out of my dining room furniture mid-September. When we downsized in 2019 we moved into a condo and negotiated its dining table and chairs as part of the sale. I was never crazy about it, but when we moved back into this cottage home, it came with us. Long story short - I found this current Ethan Allen dining room table, chairs and sideboard in a consignment store in a nearby town. The owner agreed to consign mine, and I bought this set. The switch out moves were made all in one day. It was like a good witch waved her magic wand and...
This entire shuffle of furniture was all because of this little guy pictured below. He caught my eye in an August post on social media by the consignment shop. Needles to say, he's now a resident Halloween guest in our home.

I love your Spellbound plates layered with the Thistle & Bee and accents of gold. Cast iron salad plates, really? I didn’t know such a thing existed, but they look ideal! You could not have chosen a more perfect centerpiece. The pumpkin with crow perched which is on the ready to swoop down and cause chaos! The feathered wreath with hints of purple is a finishing touch for your centerpiece! The snake candle holders are very unique and certainly add more drama to the tablesetting. The Ethan Allen dining room table, chairs, and sideboard were a fabulous find and Mr. P affirmed must make you happy!!

Your new little guy is just too cute! And your table the epitome of spooky sophistication! I love your new little plates with the animals and the woven placemats really tie in the webby-tablecloth so well! Now, that new table is a hit! Well done on the consigning, Rita. I think you made a perfect switch. And I love the black feathers in the centerpiece. Truly, it's a table I'd love to be at!

I’m glad to know that I am not the only one who will buy plates, set them aside, and not use them for a couple of years. I thought it was just me. That said, these plates are really lovely. The whole look of your table is so Gothic. This totally plays into my wheelhouse.

ReplyDeleteOh Rita...you have certainly captured the true essence of Halloween my friend. I love your new table and I know you must love the different shape from your other table. Easier to style isn't it? As to those snake candle holders....I would be afraid they would slither off the table in the night and right upon my bed....'shiver me timbers' for sure. Your plate stack is so cool with the appetizer plates and the cast iron salad plates...as they co ordinate beautifully with your center piece of pumpkin and feathers. I, too love to discover old items in new packaging when going through my stash as you did with your glitter pumpkin napkin rings. For me it is like Christmas, but then each time UPS arrives I feel the same way even if it is only a delivery of Madagascar Vanilla! Love the little happy pumpkin guy as he is smiling over the switcheroo of the tables...because he knows he planned the whole exchange. 😉🤗👻🌛🍽️🧹🍁🎃🏈🐿️🍂
ReplyDeleteOh, my, Rita! This one tops the list! It's truly a stage setter! I have read through this one 3 times, focusing on each detail. It's fun to be your friend! I've done the same, bought something, packed it away, only to discover the next season and feel as if I've found treasure. My acorn beaded napkin rings are from MKC. They add sparkle, as you say. Of course the crow theme brought a smile. I've had such fun with these black birds this season. I've pinned several images. This tablescape is such a treat! Thanks for being our bloghop host. How fun is the black crow on a black pumpkin, this table is a work of art. From the spiderweb tablecloth, to the creepy snake candleholders, it all works so well together. Fun find on the black S&Ps too!

And the cast iron salad plates are so unique. The MKC accent pieces fit perfectly with your theme and the feathered wreath with pumpkin and crow as centerpiece was brilliant - love that tiny pop of purple from the feathers. I think the snake candles and candle holders are one of my favorite things, but really, it is all truly lovely. The new dining room furniture is beautiful and what a great consignment trade you made. It would be fun shopping with you, as I would have passed right by those snake candles and silver pumpkin with the crow. I need to start browsing Target and Homegoods more :-) I even missed seeing the Mackenzie-Childs mushrooms when they were offered. And that cute pumpkin head led you to your new table and chairs! I love the monochromatic look and the subtle colour in the centrepiece feathers! But those snake candle holders are the showstoppers!
