Early Spring, Easter '21 Tablescape

The official start of spring is just days away, Daylight Savings Time has begun, and I can see and feel new life energy around me each day. Welcome to Panoply, where I am celebrating my favorite season at the table! Several other bloggers are joining me today, and you'll find links for their tables near the end of this post.
I love spring! Bright green leaves contrasting against dark mulch or tree bark is so appealing, especially with a blue sky backdrop. These are the signs of spring life I wait for after the winter months. My favorite color combination in early spring florals is purple, green and yellow gold. I always loved my pansies planted in that color combo, and to see them among my sunny daffodils and purple hyacinths was pure joy.
My table inspiration has come from my favorite spring color combo, and actually began with a quilt topper I purchased from my blogger friend, Carole, last year. Carole is a master quilt maker, was purging some of her inventory, and I quickly took advantage of her sale. The topper set the tone for spring, and also works for Mardi Gras, which inspired Carole in a previous tablescape she created.
My plate stack is resting on a bird's nest charger: a yellow square dinner, lime green round, and cabbage leaf salad bowl. A purple napkin is vertically placed between the two plates. A gold starburst napkin ring is resting at the top center of the charger. Its tines mimic the look of a dandelion ready to go to seed, and can be used as a place card holder here.
My centerpiece rabbit compote was a vintage find a few years ago. It's filled with glass eggs which I made in a Blenko Factory Eggstra Special workshop. Forsythia is appropriately used as filler, as it's blooming in my region now.
My salad set and tureen were vintage estate finds, handmade ceramics from the early 1970s. The wooden utensils are West Virginia crafted by Allegheny Treenware. I have a nice collection of these very functional utensils made by Stan and Sue Jennings. Each tool is label burned on the handle underside, marking the wood type used (most are cherry), maker initials, and the year handcrafted.
The base tablecloth is one I love using frequently. It is so versatile throughout the seasons - a texturized neutral that's not too white or too tan. If you saw my last tablescape, you're probably thinking I just kept the cloth and flatware for this one. Fun fact: this table was actually set in 2020! I was decorating for spring at the time, playing with dishes, and couldn't decide among three different tables I created to use for a spring or Easter tablescape. For 2021, since Easter is April 4, just two weeks after the start of Spring, this table combines both - Early Spring and Easter! I'm sharing my complete source list, some with links, but none are sponsored. My blog is personal, not monetized.

I want to thank Chloe, from the blog Celebrate and Decorate, for being such a constant over the past several years in organizing these tablescapes with the various stylists. I've made some really good friends through this activity of tablescaping, and hope you enjoy the topic, too. Below are the list of bloggers participating in this Easter tablescaping event. I encourage you to visit each link:

My love of vintage is how this blog of mine started, and continues since 2013. Two of my sisters and I pegged the name Panoply, a collective antique shop within our local antique mall since 2008. Over the years, dishes became one of my collections / obsessions while on the hunt. Naturally, tablescaping became a hobby, and I love incorporating vintage finds into the mix. If you like vintage shopping - whether it's thrifting curbside, shopping estate sales or attending auctions - I invite you to visit my blog again. I share our booth spaces, vintage finds, home styling, travel with my tote tribe, and sometimes the miscellaneous musing.

I'd love for you to leave a comment and join in a friendly exchange with me. Thanks for your visit today!

  1. Just beautiful Rita! I love your quilted topper from Carole as your table inspiration. Your colors, layers and textures are so appealing from your twiggy nest chargers to your cabbage leaf bowls and bunny centerpiece. I love the sprigs of forsythia the addition of your glass eggs. Playing with dishes kept me occupied while staying at home last year too. As always it’s a pleasure to join you at the table and hop with you. ♥

  2. Delightful Rita! I love the bird nest chargers which caught my eye first! I also love your color combination inspired by pansies. How charming your vintage bunny compote is nestled with forsythia and your handmade Blenko glass eggs. We share the love of vintage items and the cabbage tureen made in the seventies made me smile. I have one just like it my beloved mother made in ceramics.
I think it is so special Carole's quilt topper shines on your table. She is so talented.
I certainly see how your April Cornell tablecloth has become a favorite of yours. I love its texture. The colors, vintage items and textures all combine to make spring come alive on your table. I enjoy every table you style.
It has been an enjoyable journey of sharing tablescapes and I wish you a beautiful Easter. Your friendship and bonding with tablescapes, the Traveling Totes, and your antique booth finds has been very meaningful to me.I look forward to more.

  3. Rita, I always look forward to your tablescapes and you never disappoint. I agree with Bonnie, the bird’s nest chargers immediately caught my eye, they look like spring! I almost pulled out my grapevine wreaths to use as chargers. Your mix of your favorite spring colors is so appealing to my eye. Shades of green speaks of all the varying shades of green as trees begin to leaf out. The rabbit compote is a wonderful vintage piece. I have a pair that are very similar that I had forgotten about, now I must pull them and put them to use. I love the Carole’s quilted topper, it is perfect for your table. She is definitely a talent. I have enjoyed our common interests that have deepened our friendship. I look forward to more tablescapes, it is a pleasure to hop with you!

  5. Oh Rita, you have such beautiful vintage treasures! I love your cabbage pieces! How amazing are the wooden pieces with their labels burned into them? The star of your table has to be that gorgeous centerpiece! That rabbit compote is stunning! I evidently do not shop in the right places! I have always thought of purple and yellow as Easter colors, too, and you are right, they do work for Mardi Gras, too! It is always a joy to see what you have come up with! I have no idea how you store everything!

  6. I love your color palette of purple green and golden yellow Rita, it does sing Spring, and the cabbage pieces are wonderful! Carole is a master quilter, and the topper is lovely. Spring is extra welcome this year and it does feel like a new beginning with more and more vaccinations and things beginning to open up. Your bunny compote of eggs and forsythia is the perfect centerpiece! I hope you're warming up and things are blooming! 🌼

  7. My dear sweet Rita...I am so proud to call you my friend. I always look for a touch of purple in your table settings and this one is no different. What perfect colors for Spring and Easter and Mardi Gras.
How talented you are with the making of the glass eggs. I adore your vintage centerpiece and quilt topper. Carole's work is amazing. Your table is regal and elegant.
I know you are cheering for your West Virginia basketball team...My Jayhawks had to pull out of the Big 12 Tourney, (allowing Texas to win by default) but they flew to Indianapolis minus 3 key players due to the virus...we shall see if they are able to continue at the Dance. I feel your Mountaineers are going to go far in the NCAA tournament and 'huggy bear' will get his 900th win...(don't know who he offended to not make the Hall of Fame, because he is being slighted for sure. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!
Many hugs and Blessings and thanks for your continued prayer.

  10. This is so pretty, Rita. I am simply wild about your nest chargers. I don't know if we even have a Pier One here anymore. I think it closed about a year ago, even before the pandemic, but I haven't been out in so long, I might be wrong. I'm getting itchy for something new when I see these wonderful posts. I also love that you have things from your own region, like the Allegheny pieces and your wonderful Blenko. It's a lovely table.

  11. Your table is beautiful Rita! I love this color combo too. It all comes together perfectly and is the very essence of spring! I was looking back at the blog this time last year and several of my posts were about how next year at this time we would be having a big Easter celebration. We are scheduled for the first dose of our vaccine tomorrow. I am so relieved but again I am saying "next year" for that get together. Disappointing for sure but I will still be counting my blessings! Two feet of snow outside my door at the moment but 60's back in the forecast. Seeing this post today helped me remember that spring is coming, the flowers will bloom, and there is so much to look forward to again! Have a wonderful week!

  15. Rita, the colors are some of my favorites for spring too. Containers spilling over with pansy and viola, daffodils, hyacinths, tulips popping up in the beds. Love this time of year, especially this year!!! Your table setting is very inviting. Love the bird's nest base for your plate stack, and the vintage majolica bunny compote is like one that has lived here for decades. It sits on a shelf in the living room built-ins most of the time, but during the spring and especially Easter, it moves to the dining room and is filled with eggs. Happy Springtime!

  34. Oh these colors are amazing, and I'm in love with that quilt topper; so pretty! Of course I'm totally excited about that gorgeous rabbit compote and went back to your 2018 post when you found it. I had missed that post, but really enjoyed all your amazing finds from that Spring. Anytime I see Majolica I get in a frenzy. Too bad my pocketbook doesn't agree with my enthusiasm! haha. I've never planted pansies here. Probably because we're prone to crazy freezes just when you think they won't happen. I'm featuring your tablescape Monday evening. Thanks so much for coming over to link up and support the party, Rita! Happy first week of Spring!
