Hello, and welcome! I'm shuffling seasons here at Panoply, bringing an early fall tablescape to you while, in reality, we're still in the throes of summer here in West Virginia.
I'm also hosting a blog hop of fall tablescapes with a group of very talented table enthusiasts. You'll find their direct links listed further in this post.I really love this time of year when the seasons begin to collide, and summer heat literally melts into the cooler, crisp mornings that signal the shuffling of seasons. Though we may heat back up by afternoons, the shorter days prompt cooler evenings too. We have experienced this change since August 25th here. With that, I was inspired by a few things to create my tablescape, some new and not previously used, others from my inventory.
I was gifted the April Cornell Farmhouse Plaid tablecloth from my blog friend, Pam, and I believe it was very early this year. Although my table is oval, the round cloth fit nicely for full coverage. The napkin I chose is a William Morris print that just really struck a chord for me to blend with the blues, reds/rusts, greens and yellows of the tablecloth. The ovoid vase is a woodturned piece of oak made by my son-in-law's sister, a very talented artist. The pattern and dark line designs within the wood is what is referred to as "spalting". Spalting occurs when there is a fungus colonization within a wood and, if not caught at the right time for turning, simply rots the wood. It is highly prized by woodturners and woodworkers for their decorative appeal. Sunflowers were a natural choice for the shuffle of seasonal blooms, purchased from a local floral farmer mentioned in my post yesterday.
Other elements used for this tablescape took on a layered effect, each bringing out the colors of the plaid tablecloth. At first I started with the copper charger, navy dinner plate and yellow honeycomb and bee salad plate. I ended up adding the yellow-gold floral placemat beneath it all for that ruffle-edged effect and because, well, more is more. The napkins were garnered with bronze cast sunflower rings.
Bamboo flatware seemed fitting for the early fall look.
Lastly, the drinkware completes the place settings with smoky blue glasses and hammered copper mugs, suitable for either cold or hot drinks, possibly mules or cider. Originally, I had rattan cozies wrapping burnt orange glassware, but this look suited my taste more, better.

Just for a moment, a few feathered friends lit upon my tablescape. I'm certain it was the sunflowers they were drawn to. Their stay was brief, returning to the bookcase shelf soon after.
There were enough sunflowers that I made another bouquet with some garden snips to fill a Blenko water pitcher in tangerine. I left the sunflowers bound while plunking the hydrangeas and skip laurel branches on the sides. I placed this one on the sideboard after taking the photo.
I hope you enjoyed my pretzel logic in how I created this early fall tablescape. I like keeping track of my table elements used. Listing them with my tablescapes helps my memory. If you're inspired by anything used today, maybe the list will help you too. I have no sponsorships of any items.

Good morning Rita, I’m mad for plaid and love your tablecloth from Pam! Your William Morris print napkins with the bronze sunflower napkin rings pair beautifully and your layered dishes with the copper chargers and placemats to echo all the colors in your plaid. Your ovoid vase is a stunner! I can’t imagine how the wood is worked to create one, made even more special since you know the artist. Sunflowers are the perfect flowers to transition from summer to fall and love your feathered friends that popped in for a brief visit…what darling hats, very Vicki Sawyer-esque! Thank you so much for all your organizing efforts for our hops π½️ I so appreciate you! Happy Tuesday ππ»π§‘
ReplyDeleteRita your table is so colorful and fun and definitely ushering in Fall. I love all plaids and Pam was such a dear to gift you with this one. (I think Pam could open a store with all her beautiful AC tablecloths...what a collection she has). I adore the ovoid vase and the story of how it was made. How lucky are you to have a talent 'in the family' so to speak to produce such stunning pieces. The sunflowers are always a favorite of mine...cuz 'I'm a sunflower from the sunflower state' as that song goes. And your gorgeous little birds...I love them. Your sunflower napkin rings, layered plate stack and copper chargers bring it all together. I especially love the splash of yellow. Thank you again...for gathering us all together for another fun blog hop. πππΏ️π»π
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Rita. Your mix of colors with the plaid tablecloth is perfect! You know I am a fan of a colorful mix. The plate stack beginning with the copper charger, then adding the blue dinner plate and honeycomb bee salad plate announces fall is here. I love the ruffled edge effect of the placemat. The William Morris print napkins also strike a chord with me. Wow, the oak ovoid vase is definitely a treasure and is quite stunning! Knowing the artist makes it more special. Sunflowers were the perfect choice for the vase and for the shuffle of seasonal blooms.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do to organize and make the blog hops successful! I appreciate you. Happy Autumn and September, my friend!
Rita, what a charming table to usher in the new season! That wood turned vase is just stunning and as always, you have beautifully layered patterns, colors, and textures to create a lovely setting. Thank you for hosting, Friend! Pinned!
ReplyDeleteRita, first off let me say, "Thank you, Thank you" for continuing to lead us on the seasonal tablescape hops. They are inspiring and keep me wanting to create tablescapes.
ReplyDeleteYour linens are truly stars of your table, as is the amazing one of a kind wooden vase created by your son-in-law's sister. How special to have this piece! The splating certainly creates interest.
The plate stack is fabulous with the various textures and edge shape. Winner, winner! Of course the sunflowers make me smile as well. Tweet, tweet! Your little birdies look right at home. I'm eager to set a table with my set. I pulled out fall pieces and will play with ideas this week. Thanks again for alerting me to this charming set. Happy September. Let's get autumn started.
I love the way you described the seasons colliding Rita, and the summer heat disappearing into the cooler mornings and shorter days~ Your table is a lovely way to ease into Fall with the plaid tablecloth, copper mugs and chargers and the big happy sunflowers. The handmade wood vase is beautiful! Happy September!

What a beautiful transition from summer to fall! I am rejoicing in the cooler temperatures as the sun goes down each day. The plaid tablecloth was such a thoughtful gift and is perfect for this table. The plates you have chosen really create a cheerful layer of colour. LOVE the sunflowers! They are plentiful this time of year, and I am amazed at all the different varieties available. Thank you so much for hosting, as it is always a highlight of my content calendar!!
ReplyDeleteRita, such a happy tablescape with the April Cornell tablecloth gifted from Pam and the sunflowers. The plaid is lovely with the William Norris napkins. A pretty plate stack with copper chargers and Napoleon Bee plates. and pretty ruffled placemats. How special to have that ovoid vase, such a treasure and a bonus is the family artist. Love the overhead shot. A lovely way to welcome fall. Thanks as always for organizing us all for these fun tablescape blog hops.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colors in your tablescape Rita! A perfect setting for both summer and fall! Haha – that’s so funny about the short-stay birds – I do that all the time, and I think you made the right decision – your table is so welcoming and lovely! Thanks so much for sharing your pretzel logic, and for hosting the hop – I’m honored to be included. Happy Upcoming Fall!
ReplyDeleteYour table turned out beautifully, Rita, and especially with your plaid gifted tablecloth from Pam. I think my very favorite element on your table is that unique vase! Oh how gorgeous it is. The little feathered friends add a touch of whimsy before returning to your bookcase. Thank you for sharing the early Fall beauty with us. π»π»π»
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Rita. The gifted plaid tablecloth from Pam was a special gift and I love how you pulled all the colors from it for your table. The yellow and yellow-golds from the salads, placemats, and sunflowers give such a wonderful pop of color against the darker blues and deeper reds. The copper chargers add a layer of warmth and accent the copper mugs. Love the pattern mix from the William Morris napkins and those MKC birds are adorable. The piece de resistance for me though, was the wooden vase with the spalting from your son-in-law's sister - oh my what a beautiful piece! The mood board (if that's what it's called) was/is a great idea and your table turned out beautifully. Thank you for hosting, as always, and for sharing your "shuffling seasons" fall inspiration.
ReplyDeletePlaids are one of my favorites to pull for fall and I love how you mixed the color in your stack to compliment the tablecloth. Of course the sunflower centerpiece is the perfect statement. Happy fall Rita..........
