Hello, and Happy Holidays! Today I am sharing a tablescape with you with hopes of getting you excited for what is my favorite holiday - Christmas!
I'm also hosting a panoply of seventeen additional table enthusiasts who are sharing their Christmas tablescape ideas with you. Their links will be near the end of this post, so get ready to be inspired!
My theme for this O Christmas Tree tablescape started with a trip to World Market in Cincinnati back in September. I'm always trying to flip through my rolodex brain of tablescaping elements as I shop, knowing certain elements will interchange nicely with things I already have. I saw the tree-shaped salad plates in a neutral glaze which appealed immediately to me. I grabbed those and four napkin rings and called it good.
Darn that Kohl's cash and those coupons you can stack! They had me looking for absolutely nothing I needed, but then again, being a dishaholic has nothing to do with need. I saw the dinner plates, and with all the discounts, I hit the 'place order' button.
I knew I had other elements that would work, and I was really liking the look of a natural, outdoorsy vibe which started with the salad plates. Chargers, appetizer plates, and two layers of placemats of twig and faux cypress I already had.
I wanted to keep my centerpiece simple, so I used two wooden chargers I already had as risers, and placed four of the most darling bottle brush trees I've ever found in vintage finds. They are in red wooden flower pots and are much more substantial than those you find today. They're joined by three graduated rattan [resin] trees. A string of fairy lights run through them all, and clippings of holly and nandina from the garden finish the look.
After shopping World Market in September, I kept my eye on the coordinating beaded table runners they offered. A really good sale was calling my name, and so I bought two 36" runners. I placed them in opposite directions of each other, balancing the table look. Often times I will find a runner I love, yet the design is one directional, meaning those who sit on the opposite side of the table in which it's placed are looking at it upside down. Two runners with one-directional pattern placed side-by-side in opposite directions solves that conundrum for me. The April Cornell natural tablecloth is an often used staple in my linens.
My crystal and glassware choices for this tablescape started with my much-loved Glen Plaid by Ralph Lauren ceystal. The classic Spode Christmas Tree wine glasses were a no-brainer impulse buy when I made a trip to my favorite consignment shop for its Christmas Open House. This is the shop where I recently swapped out my dining room furniture. For a song, I bought the wine glasses and napkins, both never before used and with original tags/stickers..
The piece de resistance for me with this tablescape came with the flatware. This Italian made, stainless set is trimmed with a polymer handle made to look like leather. It feels like leather! It says it is dishwasher safe with a gel detergent, but I will hand wash this special set. I'm using four of the five pieces of each place setting.
With a combination of old and new items, my O Christmas Tree theme evolved into a natural, outdoorsy woodland look that could easily have a lodge as its central gathering place for a holiday meal. Or, be just as cozy in my Christmas cottage home or yours!

ReplyDeleteGood morning Rita. I love your woodland-themed table that is a favorite theme for me. The tree shaped salad plates are perfect. What a wonderful idea to use two runners in different directions to be eye pleasing to all sitting around your table. The twig placemats add another element of the woodland theme. The flatware by Vivo Veronika is amazing. I haven’t seen it before. Bottle brush trees in red pots are the perfect centerpiece with the graduated rattan (resin) trees. Of course, your place settings carry out your theme with the bird salad plates and the Holly and Ivy dinner plates. I would love to have a seat at your table!

Your Christmas tree table is lovely. I am drawn to the woodsy/plaid feel as that was my intent for my contribution this year. Great minds think alike as the saying goes. I actually used my stash this year though I was tempted many times to hit the "buy now" button as you did. There are always temptations that I have to simply look the other way. I love the idea of two table runners in opposite directions to allow the diners on both ends to enjoy the pretty scene. I am going to "steal" that idea. The bowls do look like they match the dinner plates and the addition of a votive and berries is another idea I might "borrow". As usual, I love your overhead photo shot...do you stand on a ladder? Such a beautiful table, Rita, and it shows especially well in your overhead picture. I was struck by how the twig placemats blended so well with the beaded Christmas tree runner in the center of the table. Using a white, textured tablecloth definitely gives the impression of snow-covered fields where Christmas trees abound in their natural habitat.

The Holly and Ivy dinner plates have all the colors on the table and a little pop of red that pulls in the napkins. The overall effect is one of a lovely, snowy winter scene that is one of the reasons we love this season so much.

Rita, the outdoor woodsy theme on your table is gorgeous. The twig and cedar placemats set the stage for the WS plaid chargers and beautiful dinner plates. The tree salads were a great find and the woodland berry appetizer plates are adorable (I have the salads in that pattern). I love the simplicity of the AC tablecloth and your solution to the one-directional table runners is brilliant. The flatware is gorgeous and I'd be handwashing it too. I love how the Glen Plaid tumblers pick up the plaid of the charger plates and that consignment shop sounds incredible - Spode wine glasses with the stickers still on is an amazing find. ReplyDeleteRita, I always enjoy seeing your tablescapes, and your Oh Christmas Tree display didn’t disappoint! I love your beaded tree runners! The silverware reminds me of a set we bought for our cottage. Unfortunately, we haven’t used it once since we sold the cottage. We had to wash everything by hand at the cottage, but at home we always use the dishwasher. Maybe this year for Christmas

ReplyDeleteRita, your Christmas table has it all -- woodland elements, classic sparkle and a fire in the fireplace! The repetition of trees in the runners, the bottlebrush centerpiece, the napkin rings, the designs on the china, and the very real clippings are both soothing and exciting to explore. I've always liked the Glen Plaid crystal and they're a perfect choice for the chargers. You could enjoy this festive tablescape all winter long!
