Welcome, everyone. I aim to be an optimist overall, but 2020 definitely put all humanity to the test. I don't think there's a single one of us who isn't ready to kick 2020 to the curb in anticipation of the New Year.
First glance might, perhaps, have you thinking this is a set of vintage blue & white chinoiserie china.
But this isn't your grandmother's blue & white china. Take a closer look.
Now what? Each salad plate in this set has a potential answer to the "Now What, 2021?"
We could be in for a bat blizzard...
...or the dreaded Stink Eye.
Yes, Things Could Be Worse.
So, before this year ends, let's all raise a glass to optimism, and head into 2021 like a boss, shall we?

A little levity is how many of us get through hard times. I know there are many who have suffered great losses in 2020, and my intention is far from dismissing anyone's losses. I have spent a good deal of time in 2020 praying for many of my friends, real and virtual, who've suffered or have asked for special intentions. I thank each of you who've sent up prayers and positive energy for my requests. I appreciate all my readers, and I wish each of you the best in 2021!

I hope 2021 is a happy and peaceful year for us....we have all been put to a test this year and I am happy to kiss 2020 goodbye! Your table is lovely - such unique dishes! I am just beginning to bring some royal blue into my home as a few months ago I have none at all! Enjoy the next two weeks and "Here's to 2021!"
ReplyDeleteRita! What a surprise! Your dishes are very unique!
ReplyDeleteThis has been a year we will never forget!
I was thinking of a blue and white New Year's table, too! I have white camellias! But I may not by the time I get around to cutting them. Our temperatures are lower.
Rita,I am thankful for your friendship and wish you and Will a wonderful Christmas.
Rita, the Calamity ware seems to sum up 2020...a year of the unbelievable.I do love a blue and white table and yours is lovely as always. Your trained eye always goes to the unique, and I love that about you! Your friendship is so very special to me and thank you for your prayers. You are a blessing and an encourager, my friend. Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteOh, what hilarious china! Yes, we need a laugh now, actually lots of laughs. I am grateful we have stayed healthy, and wish for quick distribution of the vaccine so life can return to normal.
ReplyDeleteRita, leave it to you to find such fun dishes. Yes, this all reflects our strange year, so here's to moving on to 2021, and may it bring us all good health and a more normal life. Merry, Merry to you and all your family. It'll be a table for two here!
ReplyDeleteRita, a great table complete with your humor. Which I love. Yes, I do believe we are all ready to see 2020 leave and I know better days are on the way.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a lovely Christmas and everything good and wonderful in the New Year!
Rita, What fun china! We're definitely ready for 2021! Love the blue and white scheme. It's always so fresh looking. The china reminds me of the dinner scene china in The Birdcage movie. A movie that makes me laugh. It's been played a couple of times this year! Merry Christmas and wishing you and your family a healthy, happy New Year! Clara❤️
ReplyDeleteOh, now that is funny, Clara! Wishing you a Merry Christmas, too, and all the best in 2021!
DeleteA lovely tablescape and a great message, Rita. Feeling hopeful as we head into 2021!
ReplyDeleteRita, I've laughed each time I've seen the Calamityware china, but this is the first time I've seen it in a table setting. Thanks for the smiles today! Yes it's been one of the worst years in my lifetime, in this century. I know that there has been a great deal of anguish and suffering. I also know that humor is one of the ways we'll get through this. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHaha, Sandra, I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen this china. For the longest time, I thought it was traditional chinoiserie. Sandra, please email me so I can have your direct contact info, please! Thanks for visiting. Merry Christmas to you also, and best of the New Year (could it be worse?!)
DeleteRita,
DeleteThanks so much for the smile! You are the best! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a bright New Year!
That china is a total hoot. Or maybe it is YOU who is, with a wonderful interpretation, In any event, I smiled big at this post. I could cope with snails and a dodo bird (and we had enough stink eye in 2020) but the bats -- I'll give those a pass! That said, your table is simply lovely! Merriest to you!
ReplyDeleteLove your blue and white china. Let's hope and pray that 2021 will be so much better. We can only go up and to a better place in life. Let's hope so anyway. Happy Sunday. Here we go Christmas in just a few days. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteI love blue and white Rita and this set works for 2020!!!! I have a set of these mugs and have a post I'm working on too. Praying for a "Happy New Year" in hopes of a better 2021! Merry Christmas...........
ReplyDeletehahahaha - so hilariously classic.
ReplyDeleteThis made my day. I have already cheered up.
Look for the Bethlehem Star starting tomorrow.
Better days are coming.
Hugs.
Oh my goodness Rita, those Calamity salad plates are a riot! First I thought you had just set a very lovely table, until I saw the close ups of the imagery. Thanks for the laugh! I guess there is tableware for any theme lol! Here's to a better, happy and healthy year ahead.
ReplyDeleteWell, wow, those are some plates 😂 !! I tend to be an optimist too, however there was more than one time this year when I thought, "really??? Are you kidding me??? So I'm going with your theory, on to 2021! I hope you have a lovely Christmas Rita!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Well if anyone would have these Calamity plates, it would be you! I've always been an optimist, and found so much positive in this year. But I'm going with your theory, and on to 2021! I'm anxious to see what is brings.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your fun with the dishes, Rita, and helping us to realize that things could be worse. Optimism is what keeps us going, and prayers for others and from others. May you and your sweets-loving hubby a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy 2021.
ReplyDeleteOh, mercy! I’m almost AFRAID to ask the question, “Mow what?” The answer could be something I definitely don’t want to hear!!!!!! If it’s a bat 🦇 invasion or stink eye 👁, I’m going underground!!!!!!!! What interesting (and thoroughly entertaining!) designs on the dishes!!!!! Now go throw those against the fireplace and break every single one so you don’t jinx us!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!!!!
Love this, Rita! What unique dishes. Happy 2021 to you!
ReplyDeleteHey I think I need a set of those dishes too! Better yet they are blue and white, my favorite! I think your optimism must be rubbing off on me Rita! Thank you for sharing! Happy 2021!
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are the best! Though I think I prefer the giant snail.....not a fan of bats. Love the photo of your gorgeous blue and white pretties basking in the glow of the Christmas tree lights; so beautiful. You have made me smile today. As for 2021, surely it has to be on the up and up from that of 2020.
ReplyDeleteLove your china and dining room set for 021. Let's hope the new year brings closer to this horrible virus and we can visit with our family and friends. I miss mine terribly.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Rita I love this! Too funny. I love all of the blue and white. Such happy colors. So creative... Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteRita, Your table and dishes are a hoot! I hadn’t seen them so they’re new to me. I hope I don’t need to scrap my dinnerware for a set of Calamityware for the better part of 2021. Thanks for the smiles and your wit. I'll take all the humor I can get. Merry Christmas and Cheers to a new and improved New Year. ♥
ReplyDeleteRita, how unusual these dishes are. Your description is fabulous. The humor is over the top. I am ready to kick 2020 to the curb. I pray 2021 will be a brand new year with optimism and hope. The table you set is fabulous with the blue and white dishes. Your collections are amazing. Enjoy the holidays. Happy new year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great table! Love those dishes & mugs and the images depicted! How fun!
ReplyDeleteYes 2020 was a terrible challenge wasn’t it. I certainly do hope 2021 will be an improvement!
Love your table...at first I thought " oh, Blue Willow" and then...WOW! Hope the New Year is filled with wonderful things for all of us!
ReplyDeleteAnn, they fooled me when I first saw them too! Most definitely I am looking at 2021 [cautiously] optimistic. Happy holidays!
